I rented a truck from D&D Sales to use for a month while I was working in a very remote area. Later I went to open the tailgate and it wouldn't open. I called D&D and spoke to the sales manager, he asked me to come in but I said I was already 2 hours away from their shop and on my way to work in Northern Alberta. I said that it was annoying but I would just have to carefully lift stuff into the box. At least it was jammed in the closed position! He agreed and I continued on my way. About a week later, I'm driving and the tailgate comes off! Not just falls down and drags by the tailgate ties (because for some reason they were not attached) but actually comes off and tumbles down the road! I assume the tailgate ties were not attached and had been just stuffed down the sides which is why it was jammed in the first place. I called and explained the situation and said that I was 12 hours away from their shop (and 2 hours away from any body shop) and I would just have to take the tailgate off until my work was finished and bring it in. I also sent pictures. Not too much was said, they seemed apologetic which I expected since I could have killed someone if they had been driving closely behind me. When I returned the truck the sales manager told me I would have to pay for this damage. This shocked me and I considered canceling my credit card so they couldn't charge it but I have great credit and didn't want to mess it up by dealing with a car lot's collection's agency. They told me they would call me in a couple of days with the cost. They estimated about $700, they would give a good deal. They didn't call and I wasn't going to call them to take my money. After about 3 weeks, I started to assume that they had come to their senses and realized that this was a cost they should incur since they had rented out a vehicle with faulty components. When I got my credit card statement, I had a charge of $2086.00 from D&D Sales, 27 days after I returned it! No phone call, no email, no text message. Just a charge slipped onto my credit card. Beware of all those reviews that praise their conflict resolution. I suspect they are written by family and friends of the salespeople. The only negotiation I received was me standing there explaining why I should not be responsible for this damage and the sales manager standing there repeating over and over, "You will have to pay for this, it is your responsibility."

Please beware of this dealership. I'd give zero stars if it was an option. This business is exactly why people stereotype used car sales people. They are completely dishonest and will try to sell you a vehicle without telling you about issues. And when they say the deposit is refundable. They are lying. Drove 3 hours and took a day off work to find out the vehicle I was wanting to purchase was completely destroyed. It had dents I was not told about, the interior was filthy, the sunroof didn't work, and it still had evidence of it being used in the oilfield. AMVIC inspection was also expired. I specifically asked about any flaws and was told there weren't any. Was told I was going to get pictures sent after it returned from the Ford dealership(because they lost the key)..I never saw anything....Manager is saying "Bob sent you pictures". No he absolutely did not. He sent me one of the exterior at a distance. Seeing it in person, I understand why he didn't want to send me more. Now refusing to give me back my deposit because their salesman couldn't just be honest with me. Because they incurred a cost by driving it to me. I wasn't the one who was dishonest about the condition of the vehicle, why should it be me paying? Shame on you guys for trying to pull the wool over someones eyes. Complete scam artist dealership.

Stop playing the victims in this situation. Your salesman was not up front with me about the condition of this vehicle. Period.

You offered to "help out" with the repair of the sunroof. What about everything else that was not disclosed to me. I have it in writing on 2 separate occasions where I specifically asked for pictures of any stains, chips, tares or other flaws. And both times I was told there was nothing wrong with the vehicle.

*******Response to owner- No, I was not sent any pictures of the multiple problems on this vehicle. I was sent 1 picture of it sitting inside. But when I called my salesman out about him not noticing all the damage, he said he couldn't see anything because it was outside with snow on it. Maybe he should get his story straight.

No, the money you are trying to keep was my refundable deposit intended to hold the vehicle until I saw it. You were going to charge me a completely separate fee of $300 to deliver the vehicle half way to me.
